How to Increase Googlebot's Crawl Rate via Webmaster Tools [Video]
If you really want to stress out your IT Team or make the CEO of your small internet startup stress the hell out, tell them you are changing this setting in Google Webmaster Tools. It is the setting that allows you to change the crawl rate of Googlebot on your site. More or less, Googlebot will hit your servers faster and cover more ground faster on your site. Does that mean they will crawl MORE pages on your site? NOPE! That is determined by your PageRank and a zillion multi-billion dollar algorithms probably. But if you have decent PageRank, why not crank this up and get Googlebot to crank through more of your pages? Just make sure you don’t start serving 500 or 400 errors.
P.S. This was another training video I created for the SEO team at Tribune . . . thought I’d share. Hopefully helpful.
P.S.S. The changing of the preferred domain and geographic targeting was something I did (though forgot to pause the recording of the screenshot . . . disregard that stuff for this post).
